Geometry Daily
added on Sunday, Jan 01, 2012 20:10 pm

I start something new today.
In 2012, I‘m going to channel my enthusiasm for simple graphics in a new on-going personal design project. Starting today I will publish a new graphic artwork each and every day. Each piece will be based on simple geometric shapes and composed in a rather minimal style. I set up a new tumble log dedicated to this project. It‘s called Geometry Daily, the URL is geometrydaily.tumblr.com.
Let‘s see where this will take us and how long I can hold that up! I‘m excited. See you over there. ¬ Comments

New MIT Media Lab Identity
added on Friday, Mar 18, 2011 10:37 am
Interesting new visual identity for the renowned MIT Media Lab: The logo is based on a visual system, an algorithm that produces a unique logo for each person, for faculty, staff and students. Each person can claim and own an individual shape and can use it on their business card a personal website.

Helsinki Design Lab identity by TwoPoints.net
added on Wednesday, Feb 09, 2011 21:53 pm
TwoPoints.net, a small design bureau from Barcelona, show some top-notch graphic and identity works in their portfolio. Their identity for the Helsinki Design Lab especially caught my eye: A system of graphics and symbols, beautiful typography flowing in a square-based grid, and a carefully chosen set of colors. The result is a consistent yet flexible super-modern graphic image. Also have a look at the book design.
Misericordia
added on Wednesday, Dec 08, 2010 13:16 pm

This is a sign I created for a local project for young adult christians. The project is about putting our faith in God into practice by helping needy people in our home town.
That is a very honorable task with a long tradition. So I created a coat of arms, but in a very modern and graphic way. The symbols depict the values of the project: Doing good with our hands (top left), rooted in Christ (the vineyard in the lower right). ¬ Full Entry
Bayerischer Staatspreis für Nachwuchsdesigner Exhibition
added on Thursday, Nov 11, 2010 11:34 am

If you are in or near Nuremberg, don‘t miss the current exhibition of the Bayerischer Staatspreis für Nachwuchsdesigner in the Neues Museum. The state of bavaria awarded this price to young designers of different fields. Not only is the exhibition showing some fine design works (and admission is free), but it also shows the corporate design of the award that I was working on the last months at the Warriors of the Light.
Its key element is a dynamic abstract graphic structure, based on the blue rhomb of the bavarian flag. It is now used on the catalog, on the posters inside and outside and also on the exhibition floor.
More images after the break. ¬ Full Entry
Salesman Pete Animated Short
added on Friday, Sep 24, 2010 21:02 pm
My head still spins a bit from this rapid fire of hilarious ideas and wacky details. What a killer short movie, top-notch quality in every aspect, timing, characters, music, everything. Reminds me a bit of Pixar's The Incredibles, but on speed. Go watch, this is better than most animated movies we use to pay money for.
Temp Magazine launched
added on Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010 22:42 pm
Friend and fellow Warrior Peter Riedel has just launched Temp Magazine. He is studying at the Ohm Hochschule Nürnberg (where I also teach) and this is his thesis project. On the website designers, photographers, artists and writers are invited to upload their works on a given topic. All the participants then vote on the submissions and the most popular pieces are transferred into the real world in form of a printed magazine.
I am pretty excited that Peter asked me to supervise this thesis project. The concept is great and the website design that Peter did already sets a rather daring mood. I'm glad I'm involved in the following process. The submission and voting phase will run until Christmas, the printed magazine will be finished in february 2011.
If you would like to send in submissions, I can get you an invite.

The layout and design was a collaborative effort of three fellow Warrior graphic designers (Verena Reiber, Nina Pusch and Peter Riedel) and myself. The photographs by Beppo Minx.
