Praxis der Medizin

added on Friday, Mar 28, 2008 11:08 am

This magazine was published last week by Naumann & Kollegen, a tax and law consultant in Nuremberg and long-time client. It contains financial and legal topics directed at doctors in private practice. I created the visual concept at the Warriors and did the layout of the 20 pages. ¬ Full Entry

Notwist's new album on May 9

added on Monday, Mar 24, 2008 9:12 am

Regular readers will confirm that I don’t often post about new music here. But there are a handful of bands and musicians that I love so much that new stuff has to go here: One of it is german indie rock veterans The Notwist. I count their last piece “Neon Golden” (2002) as one of the best three albums ever. Fortunately I do not have to go on chatting about how they sound, because there is one track “Good Lies”—that I am already growing to love—available for free, or listen here after the break: ¬ Full Entry

Bird Tree

added on Thursday, Mar 20, 2008 22:39 pm

Fineliner drawing on canvas for Otto, a friend of mine. It’s just lots and lots of rectangular spirals, drawn by hand. A very repetitive task, but surprisingly satisfying. To top it off, I stencil-sprayed three yellow birds on the pattern, to give it some weighted centers. Click for the full image and details. ¬ Full Entry

Arthur C. Clarke dies

added on Wednesday, Mar 19, 2008 12:10 pm

One of my favorite authors passed away at the age of 90 in his home in Sri Lanka this morning. Of course I have seen “2001 – A Space Odyssey”, but also read the novel (anybody intrigued by the film should!) and lots of his other books when I was young. Brilliant and thinkable ideas, visions of the future that really might be reality some day. Thanks for sharing, Mr. Clark. Farewell! ¬ Comments

Daniel Eatock

added on Monday, Mar 10, 2008 9:23 am

Very clever and minimal photography (and more) from Daniel Eatock, London at www.danieleatock.com. Literally hundreds of great ideas. BTW: The title of the photo on the left is “Trapped superhero”.

If I may suggest, I especially enjoyed this, this, this, this and this ¬ Comments

Troika's "Cloud" sculpture

added on Sunday, Feb 17, 2008 20:07 pm

This digital sculpture by Troika floats now in Heathrows Terminal 5 hall. It is fully covered with flip-dots known from displays in stations and airports. These dots are controlled digitally, forming shapes, lines and patterns all over the cloud. Video after the break: ¬ Full Entry

Terminal Mirage by David Maisel

added on Saturday, Jan 26, 2008 22:15 pm

Awesome images by american photographer David Maisel. I would recommend to start with the bird’s-eye views of the Great Salt Lake, Terminal Mirage. The rest is different, but also very good. ¬ Comments

"Lifted" animated short by Pixar

added on Sunday, Dec 30, 2007 14:31 pm

Some may know this animated short as the supporting movie for “Ratatoille”. For the rest, this is a clever and very funny 5 minute animated story by Pixar about a novice alien. Most beautiful rendered and charming storytelling. See for yourself, the full movie after the break: ¬ Full Entry

"Pick A Price" at 2nd Rec.

added on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 9:24 am

There is an interesting special offer going on at 2nd Rec. from Hamburg. You can pick a CD from their back catalogue, they send it to you, you listen to it. And THEN you can pay the price you find suitable. If you don’t like it, you pay nothing. If you do, you pay what you find appropriate.

I ordered “The Academic Rise of Falling Drifters”, a remix album from Giardini di Miro. Remix albums are often a mixed bag, I don’t think I would have bought it otherwise. So far I am halfway through the first track, done by my all time favourite Styrofoam. Together with the beautiful cover artwork, this is already a winner.

It is definitely too early to speak of a trend here. But after Radiohead’s album release last month this is the second time professionals give out music on a pay-as-you-like basis. In both cases I feel very good about not wasting money on music I do not know yet. And in both cases: I like the music, so I will pay.

UPDATE: Paid 12 Euro.

Light 2 Cover Poster

added on Thursday, Nov 01, 2007 19:16 pm

This poster artwork is my contribution to the second issue of Light, the magazine the Warriors publish on an irregular basis. Folded up it was the cover of half of the run. For the other half the poster was folded the other way round, with the other side out showing an (excellent) artwork by Martin Mller.

Free give-away: I give away the last five copies for free. If you are interested, please write your post address to me and the first five will get one issue of Light 2 by mail, including this and 27 other artworks.

UPDATE: The Lights are gone and on their way to their new homes…

Snippets

A happy coincidence at my desk at the Warriors: Collage work for a client’s booklet leaving random paper snippets behind, plus trying out the macro and depth-of-field-setting of my new digicam. ¬ Full Entry

A History of T-shirts

added on Monday, Sep 03, 2007 20:34 pm

Since I was old enough to go to concerts I am totally crazy about T-shirts. Today is a sad day, because I had to get rid of some, as my dresser is totally cramped and T-shirts are not supposed to be worn forever. Let me show you some of the most honourable T’s as I am wearing them the last time today and the stories behind them. ¬ Full Entry
